I like compilations, mixtapes and playlists.

My book, THE VINYL FRONTIER, is all about the making of an interstellar compilation called the Voyager Golden Record, which NASA fixed to the side of Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 in 1977.

The record had space for just 90 minutes of Earth’s music.

Think of it: encapsulate human music in a measly hour-and-a-half.

It was while researching the book, to put myself in the shoes of Carl Sagan and his team, that I started compiling my own. THE GOLDEN PLAYLIST are the songs I’d send. PYRITE RADIO is where I put also-rans, curios and badness.
